Benchlands August 22nd, 2022

San Lorenzo Park: First opened in 1964, this centrally located 11.2 acre urban green space is designated as a Community park for its ability to host large events. It is owned by the City of Santa Cruz, and serves the daily needs of nearby residents (mainly subsidized seniors and working class Latino families) as a park.

The park has a playground, a tot-lot, nine disc golf baskets, a lawn bowling facility, a restroom (men’s and women’s), and a pond with a small stage. In past years, the park has hosted numerous events throughout the summer within the low lying benchlands area.

In the past several years, it has often been repurposed from an oasis into lawless slums for transients... at the whim of City Hall.
