SCPD CPSM Department Operations Analysis

BACKGROUND:

In May of 2017, the Santa Cruz Police Department (SCPD) entered into a contract with the Center for Public Safety Management (CPSM) to conduct an operational analysis of the Santa Cruz Police Department and the Parks and Recreation Department Ranger program.

On March 8, 2018, CPSM delivered the finished report to the Santa Cruz Police Department. In the report, CPSM makes 103 recommendations. Of those, 80 are specific to SCPD and 23 are specific to the Parks and Recreation Ranger program. The recommendations cover 14 areas for police and seven (7) areas for rangers. Critically important elements of the CPSM recommendations concern police officer staffing and workload management.
